This tool can be used in simple surfaces that have all 4 edges well defined. More complex surfaces and spherical forms will, most likely, produce unwanted effects. Given that our pave disposition is usually guided by aesthetical and not mathematical considerations, this tool will be used mainly for fast approximate account of stones to be used in the project, and therefore the overall cost of the material needed, before the actual stone insertion.
